William Sedey

October 16, 1940 — September 30, 2023

William Sedey, known affectionately as Bill, went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2023.  He passed away peacefully at his home in Monrovia, CA.  He was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through his dedicated service, genuine warmth, and unwavering love for his family and friends. Bill's legacy will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

Born on October 16, 1940, Bill led a distinguished career as a postal worker for over 40 years. His commitment to his profession was unparalleled, and he approached each day with a strong work ethic and unwavering integrity. Colleagues speak of his reliability and dedication, recognizing him as a pillar of the postal service community.  Bill was a veteran and served our country in the United States Army.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bill found solace in lacing up his running shoes and competing in multiple half and full marathons in honor of his late son, Charlie. His athleticism was fueled by a deep sense of love and remembrance, demonstrating the immense strength of his character.  Bill was an avid sports fan, especailly of baseball and football.  He loved his LA Dodgers but also adopted the Pittsburg Pirates and Minnesota Vikings as they were favorites of his son Charlie.

However, it is without a doubt that Bill's true passion lay within the bonds he formed with family and friends. The sheer joy he radiated when surrounded by loved ones was unmistakable. His children and grandchildren held an especially dear place in his heart; they were truly the center of his universe. Bill delighted in their presence and unconditionally supported their endeavors. His love knew no bounds — anyone who had the privilege of spending even a moment with him walked away feeling profoundly special.  Spending time with Bill was not complete without playing games or answering trivia questions, especially about history and sports.  His motto was "life wasn't lived if it wasn't fun".

In addition to nurturing relationships with family, Bill treasured community life deeply. He took immense pride in both his home and the neighborhood he grew up in and lived in for most of his life. Whenever given the opportunity, he would eagerly engage with friends old and new, leaving an indelible impact on all those fortunate enough to know him.  Bill would always 'stop and smell the roses', and meant it when he asked "how are you"?  - no matter what was going on in his life.

The memory of Bill will forever endure through the many stories shared by those whose lives he touched. His warm smile, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness will be deeply missed. Words cannot capture the profound loss we all feel as we bid farewell to someone who exemplified compassion and selflessness.

A visitation in honor of Bill's life will be held at Douglass & Zook - Chapel of the Foothills in Monrovia, CA on October 10, 2023, with visiting hours from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM including a service commencing at 12:00 PM and a burial service at Live Oak Cemetary immediately following.  We invite all who knew and loved Bill to join us in celebrating the remarkable life he lived.

Bill is survived by his loving daughter April Silvia, devoted son-in-law Michael Silvia, of Cohasset, Massachusetts, grandsons Sean Sedey and Ryan Sedey of Alta Loma, California, and grandson Jack Silvia, granddaughters Cali Silvia and Lexi Silvia of Cohasset, Massachusetts. Bill is preceased by his late son, Charles Joseph Sedey.  He also leaves behind a myriad of friends whose lives were forever transformed by his presence.

In this time of sorrow, let us find solace in his strong faith and the memories we shared with Bill. May his indomitable spirit continue to inspire us to embrace life fully and to cherish those closest to our hearts. As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember that Bill's love will forever live on within us all.
