Virginia "Ginger" Emma McCloskey, 87, born on March 30, 1932, in Lawrence, Nebraska, passed away September 16, 2019. She resided in El Monte, California at the time of her passing. The last four years of her life were spent at the Kensington retirement home in Sierra Madre, CA where she received wonderful care during her battle with Alzheimer's.

A vigil will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Douglass & Zook Chapel of the Foothills.

Ginger's funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Chapel at Santa Teresita, 1210 Royal Oaks Dr., Duarte, CA 91010. A luncheon reception will be held immediately after the funeral.

Ginger was born on a farm to Joseph and Elizabeth Kohmetscher. She had 3 brothers and was the only girl. The farm life had a great impact on her and was always a part of her. Later at her home in California she always had pets that included dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, chickens, a duck, a turtle and more...

Ginger attended Sacred Heart High School in Falls City Nebraska where she was part of the graduating class of 1950. She had many great memories of that time and spoke fondly of her time and friends there.

In 1954,ginger graduated from Creighton University, St. Catherine's Hospital, with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She worked at the VA Hospital in Denver with some of her classmates where they skied and enjoyed the outdoors. She went on to work for many years at Santa Teresita Hospital in Duarte, CA where she absolutely loved her work,the nurses, and staff.

Ginger loved her family. She traveled to Europe where she visited Paris, London and cities in Ireland. Her visit to Brazil to see her brother Fr. Jim "Padre Jaime" was the adventure of a lifetime.

Ginger adored her nieces and nephews. She was blessed with eight grandchildren who were all able to spend time with her over the last couple of years. These visits brought her great joy and comfort.
