Virginia Frances Rodebeck Askren was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 16, 1930, and passed away January 13, 2013. Virginia attended Butler University before graduating from Indiana University in 1952 with a liberal arts degree. She and Paul Askren were married on August 31, 1952, and moved to Albuquerque for two years while he was stationed there in the Air Force. They moved to southern California in 1955 settling in Arcadia. Virginia greatly enjoying teaching, and taught history for 23 years in the San Marino school district retiring in 1992. She was deeply interested in politics and American history throughout her life, and enjoyed traveling to historical sites and national parks throughout the country. Virginia was also active in the local community including membership in the Arcadia Knitwits, the San Gabriel Valley Panhellenic, and the Arcadia Republican Women’s Club. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was happiest when spending time with her family and friends at her home of 50 years. She is survived by one daughter, Lynn Reitzell and husband Richard; one son, Mark Askren and wife Suzanne; and two granddaughters, Haley Askren, and Kimberly Reitzell Killough and husband Micah. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul Askren. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity or to the American Heart Association.
