Theodore Thomas Tolbert

Theodore Thomas Tolbert was born on January 25th, 1949 to James M. and Della Tolbert in Greenville, South Carolina. He was nicknamed “Rev” after his uncle Reverend Theodore Thomas Tolbert. He was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters. His mother, father and six of his siblings preceeded him in death. Theodore moved to Duarte, California with his older brother Dave in 1966 and remained in Southern California for 43 years. He began his career in painting with his brother and Cassius Roberts. He later obtained his own contractor’s license and started his own business, Tolbert Painting. On August 2nd, 1972 he married Cherry Houze. On March 15th, 1975, they were blessed with their only child, Tina Lynee Tolbert. After valiant battles with diabetes and high blood pressure, Theodore took his final breath on Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 at 7:10 P.M. He was survived by his “little lamb,” Tina Tolbert, his devoted wife, Cherry Tolbert, his 4 siblings; Dave Tolbert of Victorville, CA, Daisy Young of Greenville, SC, Bobby L. Tolbert of Greenville, SC, Margie Martin of Piedmont, SC and a blessed abundance of cherished nieces and nephews, family and friends. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, January 8, 2010 at Douglass & Zook Chapel of Remembrance Funeral Home, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia, CA 91016.
