Telma Maria Andrews

April 14, 1937 — January 25, 2021

Telma Maria Andrews was born as Telma Maria Espinoza on April 14, 1937 to Jose Mercedes Espinoza and Aurora Gutierrez in Puerto Armuelles, Panama. She died at Emanate Queen of the Valley Hospital from Covid-19 in the morning hours of January 25, 2021 after a valiant 18-day fight at the age of 83. She is survived by her husband, Joel Benjamin Andrews; 9 brothers and sisters; numerous aunts, uncles and nieces. She used to joke that if she brought them here from Panama, they might fill a football field. Other survivors are Saul Chavez, her Godson of Moreno Valley, whom she raised and to a lesser degree, David Chavez of El Monte, who wanted to accompany his brother. Telma is preceded in death by her father, Jose Mercedes Espinoza, and mother, Aurora Gutierrez, and at least one of her sisters. Telma came to the States in the early 50s. She did a lot of traveling and just about visited all the states. She met her husband, Joel Andrews, in 1982 while both of them were employed in a manufacturing company in Industry, California. Telma never gave up her interest in traveling. Her favorite travel spots were Carlsbad, California and nearby beaches, where she spent many vacations. Favorite being Encinitas. She also liked Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada. Besides travel, she was very fond of animals. She contributed to numerous animal rights groups on a regular basis. She rescued many animals: dogs, cats, birds. She also loved people. She could strike up a conversation with anybody young, old, poor, rich and any color. She never met a stranger. She worked more than 40 years and served her country. Her last job was in the aerospace industry, where she tested parts used in satellites and other manned and unmanned vehicles for space journeys. She ended her life on earth and is now with all the saints that went before her. May she rest in peace in the Lord's arms Amen! A memorial service will be held at a later date at the United Methodist Church in Walnut, California.
