April 19, 1914 — August 13, 2011

Ruth B. Hilk, 97, of Arcadia, passed away on August 13, 2011 at her home. Mother and best friend to her children, Candace and James, Ruth is also survived by a sister, brother, nieces and nephews. Originally a Chicagoan, Ruth was widowed 48 years ago, raised her children and continued to live in Chicago until the early 1990’s. In her early years she worked at a lamp shade factory and catalog warehouse, where she made lifelong friends. She married, had children and later worked in the accounting department at Sears for over 20 years, retiring from her job at the Sears Tower downtown Chicago location. Ruth’s passion was writing to her friends and family which she did well into her 90’s and for which she is best remembered. Her notes and cards were eloquent and thoughtful. She continued to make friends throughout her life and stayed in touch with all of them through her writing. Her children will remember a kind and thoughtful mother and will always be reminded of her bravery and strength as she faced all of her life’s challenges.
