Rosina E. Corum

Rosina E. Corum was born Aug. 6, 1927, the ninth child of parents Henry T. and Catherine E. Schimmer in Danbury, Iowa. She attended St. Mary's (Catholic) School followed by Danbury High School, where she graduated in 1947. After graduation, she came to California to be with her sister, Loretta, for the birth of her daughter. A few years later, she met Ray G. Corum, whom she married on Sept. 11, 1953. Soon after, she entered civil service, where she remained until shortly before her son Kenneth was born in 1971. Upon Kenneth's reaching school age, she began working in retail sales and clerical work; retiring from Fedco on Sept. 20, 1992. She spent a number of years in First Church of the Nazarene, Pasadena, Ca, followed by a couple at Sierra Madre Congregational. A few years into retirement, health concerns persuaded her to cease church attendance. Her last days were spent in hospice care at a friend's house in Laguna Niguel, in Orange County, Ca. It was there she passed on May 11, 2009. A Memorial Service will be held today at 3:00 PM at Douglass & Zook Colonial Chapel.
