Emblem

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Robert A. Stiver (1932–2025).

Bob was called to heaven on December 16, 2025, to be reunited with his bride of 48 years, Marlene Elizabeth Stiver.

Bob was a devoted husband, loving father to Kevin A. Stiver and Brian E. Stiver, father in - law to Laurie and Marci and a proud grandfather to Zachary Stiver, Miranda (Stiver) Jordan, and Stephanie Stiver. He cherished his family deeply. To most family and friends, he was known simply as Grandpa. He was our family patriarch.

Grandpa showed us all the importance of faith, family and country. He lived and breathed a rock-solid work ethic, and he modeled for every one of us what it truly means to be a great dad and an even greater grandpa. He was literally the grandfather to dozens of his grandkids’ sports teams—always on the sidelines, cheering, offering quiet wisdom in the car ride home, and making every child feel like they were the most important player on the field. Following Marlene’s passing in 2001, Bob found his greatest joy in attending as many of his grandchildren’s sporting events as possible, from Zachary’s football and baseball games to Miranda’s soccer matches and Stephanie’s volleyball career. He was a beloved staple in the stands.

A military veteran, Bob served as a U.S. Army Airborne Ranger. He had a distinguished career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, working at JPL, Hughes Aircraft, and DEC.

Wanting to give back to the Altadena community and beyond, Bob put his military training to good use as a member of the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Reserve.

After leaving the military, Bob continued skydiving until Marlene convinced him that another hobby might be better for a young new father. Reluctantly, he agreed—so instead of skydiving, he obtained his pilot’s license and bought a plane. Bob and Marlene found great joy in flying together to local airports for visits and lunches.

Bob lived in the family home in Altadena for over 70 years—a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. In January of this year, that cherished home was lost to the devastating Eaton Fire, a painful blow in the final chapter of his life. Even through that profound loss, Grandpa remained steadfast in his faith and focus on family, reminding us all that people—not places—are what truly matter.

He leaves behind a legacy of love that bound us together, a faith that steadied us through life's trials, and countless memories of a man who showed up—day after day, game after game, year after year. We were lucky to have him, and we’ll carry him with us always.

Bob’s ashes will be scattered at sea in the same location as Marlene’s.

A celebration of life will be held at Kevin Stiver’s home on January 24th

1 P.M. – 4 P.M. Military Honors will be preformed at 3 P.M.
