Robert G. (Bob) Forney passed away peacefully at home in Sierra Madre on Monday, Dec.27. He was 89. Mr. Forney was born in Pomona, Calif. and raised in the orange groves of La Verne. He attended Bonita High School, where he met his wife of 69 years, Ann Roberts. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served a tour in the Pacific during World War II. Following the war, he attended the University of Southern California where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mr. Forney joined Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1951 and subsequently worked on the Corporal, Ranger, Surveyor, and Mariner programs. He was Program Manager for the Photovoltaic (Solar Energy) and Army programs before his retirement after 37 years of service to JPL. During his tenure at JPL, he worked under Lab Directors William Pickering and Lew Allen.Mr. Forney is survived by his wife, Ann, his three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Vicki Forney, James and Mary Forney, and David and Laura Forney, and nine grandchildren.
