Robert Anthony Corona

November 13, 1929 — July 29, 2010

Robert Anthony Corona was born November 13, 1929 in Santa Ana, California to Isabel and Emma Corona. From an early age Robert began developing moral responsibilities and adopted a strong work ethic. At the age of ten he had his first work experience at an East Los Angeles Mexican grocery store helping customers and making chorizo. He also began earning an income with an early morning paper route to help support his family, after which he attended elementary school in Lincoln Heights. Following his studies Robert took the “P-Car” streetcar to work at the Biltmore Hotel where he learned many of his lifelong philosophies through exchanges with the patrons and clientele. As a student at Belmont High School in Los Angeles Robert became interested in the Arts enrolling in Lincoln Park. Robert was then drafted into the US Army from 1950-1952 as a Military Policemen Stationed at Camp Roberts, Paso Robles. After his term of service he then moved back to Highland Park and attended Los Angeles City College learning TV and Radio Repair. This then lead into a ten year stint as a TV repair technician, mostly at his own Jay-Ray TV and Radio Repair shop in Highland Park. After the closing of his shop he was the perfect fit for employment as a security Guard at Herb Alpert’s A&M Records Company due to his honorable discharge from the military. Following this he spent time with California Highway Patrol as a vehicle inspector, and then nineteen years with Los Angeles Main Annex Post Office as a supervisor before his retirement in 2002 at age seventy-three. Robert was an avid reader, especially Ayn Rand, and was always interested in the history and complexities of gambling and horse racing odds. He was responsible, independent , very supportive, always knew right from wrong, and was a true gentlemen. In his final days one of Robert’s favorite activities was giving loving advice to his niece Debbie over breakfast at Carrow’s Restaurant. Robert Anthony Corona passed away peacefully on July 29, 2010 at his home in Highland Park. He is survived by two sisters Emma Acosta of El Paso, Texas , Rosemarie Colavin of San Gabriel, California and seven nieces and five nephews.
