Rita A. Hastings

Rita Alexia Hastings, 85, a resident of La Puente, died Sept. 20, 2010 at Covina Rehabilitation Hospital in Covina. She was born July 17, 1925, in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, Canada, to Mary Ann Sullivan and Ronald Griffin. She was married to Lambert William “Bill” Hastings on June 12, 1949. She worked at Sierra Madre Congregational Church for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, she continued to volunteer and attend services at the church for another 10 years. Rita loved cooking for family and friends, and enjoyed playing bingo and crossword puzzles. She was a kind and generous soul who will be missed by all who knew her. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Moran, Bob Hastings, Jeanne (Mike) Garrett, Steve Hastings, and Mary Lou (Kelly Timmons) Hastings, twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, and oldest son John, in 1993. Services will be held on Sept. 27, 2010, at Sierra Madre Congregational Church in Sierra Madre at 11:00 am.
