Richard G Jehning (“Jeff”)  1928-2023

Born 3/29/1928 to Lucy and Gustave Jehning in Plainville, CT.  Jeff passed peacefully in his sleep on 10/16/2023.

He resided in Glendora, CA at the time of his passing.  He was 95 years old.

Jeff grew up in New Britain CT where he was a long distance runner who broke his high school’s cross country record.  After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Camp Roberts in CA where he trained servicemen preparing for the Korean Conflict.  Upon an honorable discharge in 1952 he moved to  Pasadena and graduated from Pasadena City College. He worked with Lockheed before beginning a long career as a successful Lustre Craft salesman  winning many sales awards.

Jeff was an active member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Alhambra for more than 50 years.  He served as an usher and was deeply involved in the church’s musical outreach to local convalescent communities. He dedicated many years of service to the Lutheran Laymen League (LLL). He was very involved with the annual Rose Parade Float for the LLL.  Jeff was also active in the Monterey Park community and served as President of the Monterey Park Lions Club.  For many years, he volunteered to drive junior blind youth to social events.  He was an active Red Cross blood donor for many years for his sought-after rare blood type.

Though he loved his job and social activities Jeff’s favorite role was that as father, grandfather and uncle.  He sent everyone birthday, wedding and anniversary cards with very personal messages.  Jeff treasured  time spent with his grandchildren - never failing to attend birthday parties, baseball games and other activities.

Everyone who knew Jeff knew he was the life of the party.  He loved telling jokes and getting laughs.  He was a story teller always getting chuckles by referring to people by a wrong namethe - his favorite was Barbara.  He was famous for pages of copied jokes that he willingly shared with everyone.

Jeff leaves behind many family and friends. He will be greatly missed but rejoins the Lord.

Jeff is survived by his children: Mark, Jerry (Loren), Colleen (John), Jeffrey, Ron and Jodi;

Grandchildren; Meghan (Mike), Jessica (Nathan), Joshua, Brian, Breana, Katie, Annisa and Leah; great-granddaughters Peyton and Kenzie; brothers Donald, Gus and Tom; sisters: Mildred, Lucille, and Dorothy. He is preceded in death by his sons Joel and Joel II; brothers: Herbert, Albert, and William; sisters Gladys, Ruth, and Florence.
