Ralph James McClain (Jim) Our beloved dad, grandfather and great grandfather and friend went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2019 at the age of 92. Jim was born in Los Angeles California to parents Ralph and Hazel McClain. He was the youngest of three boys. He lived in the Los Angeles area most of his life.
Jim attended Dorsey high school where he met the love of his live Martha Steinkamp. Jim and Martha were married on August 20 1948, Las Vegas, NV.
Jim was deeply loved and will be greatly missed
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Hazel, his brothers Max and Jack, the love of his life of 65 years Martha, his son Jeffrey, his daughter Jayne and his son in law Ken Smith
He is survived by his son John McClain and his wife Christine, daughter in law Doreen McClain; ten grandchildren, Jennifer McClain, Kimberly and Tim Pollock, Melissa and Jason Miller, Laura and Elmir Lukac, Jamie and Sean Gunter, Ryan and Kathy Smith, Jeffrey McClain, Amy McClain, Matthew McClain and Eric and Maryann Smith; Â fifteen Great Grandchildren, Brian White, Brianna Hall, William Gunter, Reagan and Kennedy Pollock, Layla and Erik Lukac, Nickson Kennan and Copper Miller, Hudson and Ford Smith and Paisley and Wyatt Smith
In May of 1950, Jim and Martha McClain bought J. A. Owen's stock in Owen Roofing Company and Jim joined his father Ralph McClain at Owen Roofing Company and became President of Owen Roofing Company when his father passed October 1954. Â At this time Max R McClain and John E. (Jack) McClain became officers of Owen Roofing Company which became a leader in the commercial roofing industry for decades.
Jim was a founding member of the Lions Club (Gardena 50's), and enjoyed decades of fellowship, traveling, golf and gin-rummy games with his close friends in the Lions Club.
In the 60's Jim enjoyed bowling and was in a scratch league; and, Family Double's league with Jeff, John and Jayne (grandma and grandpa Steinkamp) taking turns at Missile Bowl in Gardena.
In his later years, Jim enjoyed traveling around the world with family and friends. Â Jim loved watching and rooting for his USC Trojan football team.
In 2002 Jim and Martha moved to Palm Desert Greens CC to retire and play golf, play cards, have countless meals with friends and family and make a lifetime of memories.
We are so blessed to have had Jim lived in his home until he went to be with the Lord and was greeted by  Martha, his son Jeff, his daughter Jayne and son in law Ken Smith.
