Col. Pio Peralta Escobar, 101, born on July 10, 1917, in Burgos, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, passed away on March 31, 2019. He resided in Duarte, California at the time of his passing. Pio graduated from the University of Manila with both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Law. He has also undergone multiple Military Schoolings such as Advanced ROTC, Philippine Constabulary Academy, Advance Infantry & Quarter Master General. World War II. There, served as a 3rd Lieutenant Company Commander of K Company of the 121st USAFFE at Bessang Pass, Ilocos Sur. Japanese Occupation, he was captured and was forced in the Death March in Bataan and Capas, Tarlac. He was wounded in action during the war. Towards the end of the War, Pio as part of the Filipino Armed Forces combined with American Forces participated in the capturing of Yamashita in the Bessang Pass. After the war, Col. Pio Escobar received several medals such as The Purple Heart Medal, Gold Cross Medal & Wounded Personnel Medal. He then proceeded to serve as the Presidental Guard Battalion Commander of President Elpidio Quirino. Col. Pio P. Escobar is survived by his 5 children. Pio Escobar Jr., Stephanie Escobar, Elizabeth Tolosa, Chito Escobar & Edwin Escobar. He has 7 grandchildren (Lizzle Escobar, Ryan Escobar, Sheila Escobar-Valera, Edmond Escobar, JP Tolosa, Bea Locsin & Nicole Tolosa) and 1 great-granddaughter (Zara Valera).


The Viewing Services will take place in Douglass & Zook Funeral and Cremation Services in Monrovia, California on Wednesday & Thursday (April 10 & 11), from 5 pm to 9 pm. A Rosary Prayer will be led by Deacon Mike on Thursday at 7 pm.

The Funeral will take place in Immaculate Conception at 10 am on April 12.

Pio will be laid to rest, next to his wife Milagros Escobar, in Live Oak Cemetery (Monrovia, CA).
