Peter Henry Ulrich was born November 24, 1922 in Munich, Germany and arrived in the United States in 1939. He attended Hyde Park High School in Chicago, Illinois where he met Carol Adaline Peek in bookkeeping class. Peter married his high school sweetheart on October 21, 1944 in Reno, Nevada while he was serving in the US Army (1943-1946). In 1945 Peter and his wife moved to Riverside, California where their three children were born, Carol Jean (Jeannie), Patricia Diane (Patt) and Peter James (Jim). While living in Riverside, Peter was employed with Security Title Co., Citizen National Trust and Savings and was Vice President at Security First National Bank. Peter was a founding member of the Riverside Symphony Society and President of the Riverside Opera Association. In 1963, Peter and his family moved to Los Angeles County when he became Senior Vice-President of the Bank of California, and later the President of BanCal Mortgage Co. and President of Beneficial Standard Mortgage Co. Peter was very active in volunteer services throughout his life. His volunteer activities included, but were not limited to, the Salvation Army, including the Harbor Light Project and the Red Kettle Drive, the Lions Club both in LA Host and Arcadia, serving more than 55 years and in various positions for the Idyllwild Arts Foundation. He served for the City of Arcadia on the City Council, the Library Board of Trustees, Arcadia Beautiful Commission and volunteered for the Arcadia Police Department. He was twice honored by the City of Arcadia as Volunteer of the Year. He was active with the Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities. Peter volunteered at the 1984 LA Olympics and the Breeder's Cup. He also served on the Board of Regents for California Lutheran University. Peter was an active member of several mortgage bankers associations including the California Mortgage Bankers Association. He was also a member of Lambda Alpha serving in several positions. Peter died on September 14, 2017 in his home with his daughters at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, who he was married to for 70 years. Peter is survived by his daughters Jeannie Hewes of Tucson, Arizona, Patt Eberhart (husband Damon) of Loomis, California and son Jim Ulrich of Chula Vista, California. He is also survived by granddaughters Debbie Clauer, Lynda Walcott, Susan Aberholdt, Stacey Eberhart and Steffany Catalano. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Vitas Hospice for their care of Peter and his caregivers, especially Sarah. The services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Chapel of the Hill Avenue Grace Lutheran Church, 73 N. Hill Avenue, Pasadena. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in his name to the Salvation Army, Hurricane Relief or the Arcadia Library Foundation, 20 W. Duarte Road, Arcadia.
