Norma Marie Iovine

Norma Marie Putkoski Iovine was born September 13, 1926 and died February 22, 2019 at the age of 92 in Arcadia, California where she lived for more than 60 years.
Norma was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, the youngest of six children born to Frank and Martha Putkowski. Her siblings Eleanor, Regina, Cas, Henry and Edward predeceased her. Norma attended St. John's University, became a registered nurse and the youngest nursing supervisor at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn New York. She married a physician, Gino Iovine M.D. and the couple moved to California.
Norma gave birth to two daughters: Gina Marie and Lisa. After her divorce she returned to work as a director of nurses at two convalescent hospitals, Arcadia Convalescent (now Arcadia Healthcare Center) and Eisenhower Convalescent Hospital. She worked tirelessly to improve the lives of her patients and their families. As both mother and father to her daughters, Norma unselfishly devoted her entire life to them. She passed on her feisty nature, sense of humor, boundless faith, appreciation of music and love of animals.
Like any great parent she taught by example the virtues of loyalty, perseverance, hard work, giving every task your best effort and never wavering from your core principles and beliefs. Norma's daughter Gina became an attorney and married attorney Hillel Chodos. As a college student Gina changed her surname to her mother's maiden name in recognition of her mother's tremendous sacrifices as a single parent.
With her daughter and caretaker Gina at her bedside, Norma drew her last breath at the same hour of day that she had given birth to her daughter. Donations in Norma's honor can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Heart Association any Catholic charity, animal protective charity or no kill shelter.
