Mildred E. Davis

March 17, 1924 — December 3, 2009

Mid Davis passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Pasadena, CA. She was born Mildred Anna Edmondson in Denver and raised in the small town of Akron, CO. After receiving her B.A. in Music Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder, she taught briefly, then moved to Seattle, WA, where she made a number of lifelong friends. In 1948, Mid met Thomas V Davis, a Boeing engineer, at Seattle First Baptist Church, and they married the following year. They moved to Mercer Island, WA, and their children Peggy Sue and Tom were born in Seattle. Their son Jim was born in Pasadena after Tom was transferred to Los Angeles, his hometown. The family lived in Altadena, moved back to Mercer Island in 1973, and returned to Altadena for good in 1982. A violinist and pianist, Mid encouraged a love of music in her children. Both she and Tom were active members of the Seattle and Pasadena First Baptist Churches and the Caltech Associates. Mid was also active in the Altadena Guild of Huntington Memorial Hospital and P.E.O. After Tom retired, the two of them enjoyed taking cruises and Elderhostel trips, and Mid continued to travel with friends and family members after Tom’s death in 1995. She was an unfailingly kind and generous person, a loving mother, and a devoted grandmother. Mid is survived by daughter Peggy Sue Davis of Altadena and her husband Bradley Thompson (grandchildren Allison and Mark Philpott); son Tom Davis of Seattle and his wife Debbie Douglas (grandsons Tommy and Danny); son Jim Davis of Woodland, CA, and his wife Cindy (grandchildren Evan and Amanda); and her sister Harriet Wilson of Vancouver, WA. Her sister Geraldine Masters of Denver died in 2004. A funeral service will be held at Pasadena First Baptist Church on Monday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Forest Lawn in Glendale. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Huntington Medical Research Institutes or to the National Aphasia Association.
