It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Maurice “Shorey” Bickford, Jr., a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, on November 20, 2025. Shorey passed away due to complications stemming from End-Stage Renal Disease. He was 67 years old.
Shorey was known by all who met him as a kind, patient, and deeply caring man with an exceptionally generous spirit. His physical presence was matched only by the size of his heart; he was frequently described by his loved ones and colleagues as a big teddy bear just waiting for a warm hug.
For many years, Shorey dedicated his professional life to the field of Information Technology, where his gentle demeanor and keen intellect shone brightly. Colleagues often remarked on his legendary patience, stating he had the "patience of a saint" when troubleshooting complex IT-related issues. He approached every technical challenge and every person who needed assistance with calm, focused attention and a remarkable ability to simplify the complex.
Following his retirement, Shorey found his greatest joy in his long-time hobby of ham radio. He spent countless hours listening to voices from all corners of the globe. This hobby was a perfect outlet for his curious mind and desire for connection, allowing him to communicate with fellow enthusiasts across the world, creating a network of friendship that stretched far beyond his home.
He is survived by his caring wife, Jaymie; his loving daughter, Christal; his cherished son, Devlin; his siblings, Kevin, Marjory, and Christina; and his mother, Elaine. His legacy is one of enduring kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all members of the community whose lives he touched with his genuine warmth.
Details regarding the memorial service and celebration of Shorey’s life will be shared at a later date. The family appreciates the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
He resided in Duarte, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the care of Douglass & Zook Funeral and Cremation Services, Monrovia, CA.
