Martha Ann Griffin

Godspeed to my grandmother, Martha Griffin. She was always an elegant, loving and proud matriarch. A Sierra Madre icon, tending to the roses in front of her home, wearing her white turban, the Grand Dame of Sturtevant Drive. Her wardrobe was legendary, housed in a bowling lane sized closet and meticulously curated. Martha took great joy in giving tours of her home and fashion collection. She loved to regale her visitors, family and people in the check out line at Howies with the story of the day she met the Queen of England, when my grandfather was Mayor of Sierra Madre. I will always remember her this way, perfectly poised and impeccably dressed, with a slight twinkle in her eye as she spoke lovingly of her family’s achievements and showcased the plaques, photos and memorabilia that tell the story of the Griffins of Sierra Madre. -Pat Griffin Martha was born July 8, 1921 in Germany. She passed away peacefully Dec. 1, 2011. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carlyle Griffin. She is survived by her sons, Ronald and Michael Griffin; her grandchildren, Patrick, Heather, Dennis, Philip and Christopher Griffin; and her great grandchildren, Mikayla and C.J. White. A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, Dec. 16 with her service at 11:00 AM at Douglass & Zook Chapel of Remembrance.
