Marie Spaulding

August 19, 1936 — January 11, 2023

Anna "Marie" Spaulding was a loving mom, grandma, great grandma and friend. She left this world after bravely suffering years of chronic illness on January 11th, 2023 at the age of 86. She died peacefully at her home of 54 years, exactly where she wanted to be.

Marie was born in Pittsburgh Kansas to James and Maxine Burnick on August 19, 1936. The family later relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where she graduated from high school. Shortly after, Marie met her husband, Robert "Bob" Spaulding and they were married on August 31, 1956. Together they had 5 children in 5 years.

In search of a better life, Bob and Marie moved their young family to Walnut, California in 1969. She was a homemaker until the early 70's, when she began her career. She worked at Lanterman State Hospital as a medical records technician, officially retiring at the age of 71.

From a very young age Marie loved sports, and was an avid hockey and football fan. She loved her Detroit Red Wings most, but in her later years she was inspired by the tenacious Las Vegas Golden Knights and rapidly became a fan. In her retirement, she became an active member of the Walnut Senior Citizens Club, the Diamond Bar Seniors, and the local Elks Lodge where she quickly developed a passion and love for Bingo. She loved and drew strength from her community of friends, playing Bingo three times a week. Marie loved to dress up and was widely known for being coordinated from head to toe.

As matriarch of the family she created a beautiful legacy to carry on her love and light. She leaves behind her five children Dana Spaulding Shafer, James (Jim) Spaulding, William (Bill) Spaulding, Russell (Russ) Spaulding, and Joseph (Joe) Spaulding, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for 9:30 AM on February 3, 2023 at the Church Of Our Heritage, Forest Lawn Covina. Anyone wishing to honor her life with donations in lieu of flowers can contribute to the American Kidney Fund or the Walnut Senior Citizen Center in her name.
