Marie Anderson

Our dear precious mother, Marie Therese Anderson, passed away on February 23, 2024 at the age of 97. She was born on December 17, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was raised in Hingham, Massachusetts and had 6 brothers and 1 sister. At the age of 18, she traveled to Los Angeles on the train to visit her sister who had moved there. Once she saw the beautiful beaches and scenery, and especially the weather, she knew it was the place for her and decided to stay. She then met the love of her life, Wilbur Anderson (Andy) and they were married in 1951. They eventually bought a home in Monrovia to raise their 6 children. 

Marie started working for General Telephone company (now Verizon) in 1967 and worked there for 20 years. She lost her dear Andy in 1994. Though retired, she began working at Santa Teresita hospital part time and worked there for many years. She was still residing in Monrovia at the time of her passing and had lived there for 60 years. 

Marie is survived by her children, Barbara Boyle, Laura Melendrez, Vincent Anderson, Valerie Elmgren, Richard Anderson and Carole Anderson. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

Our hearts are broken that we’ve lost her, she was the best mother ever, the nicest person you could ever meet, and she adored all of her extended family. But we know she is at peace with the Lord, and that she is overjoyed to now spend eternity with her beloved husband Andy. 

Family and friends are welcome to attend Marie’s Celebration of Life following the cemetery service. It will be located at the VFW hall in Monrovia at approximately 2 p.m. Address is 825 S. Magnolia.
