Margie Grasha, life long resident of North Hollywood/Burbank, passed away January 12, 2013 at home surrounded by her family, due to acute leukemia. She was 86. Margie was born January 21, 1926 to Frank and Mary Mizerak in Martin, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of six children and married WW II veteran, Frank L. Grasha, November 26, 1949. Margie worked tirelessly for her family assisting her sisters by taking care of her nieces and nephews. During World War II, she served our country by working as a riveter at the Eveready Battery Factory in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1963, she moved with her husband and family to North Hollywood and became an active parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Margie managed an apartment complex until 1965, and later held a full time manufacturing job from 1963 until 1990 when she retired, all the while being a full-time mother. Upon retirement in 1990, from ITT General Controls, she devoted her time to tending to her husband's illness, until his untimely death in 1994. She then sold the family home and rented an apartment at Park Avenue Apartments in Burbank. There, she forged many deep friendships with her neighbors who treated her like family and showered her with kindness. Margie later went on to become an usher, a eucharistic minister, and a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Seniors Guild. She sat on the board and planned many enjoyable trips. Margie was also a member of the YMCA and at times led a "Hinges & Twinges" water exercise program. Margie is survived by her children, Donald, Douglas, and Karen; grandchildren, Kevin, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Hayden, and many great friends at Park Avenue Apartments. She was preceded into eternal peace by siblings, Paul, Annie, and Helen; and her husband, Frank. The viewing and rosary will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Friday, January 18th from 9:00 - 9:45 AM. A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 AM, followed by a burial at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery. A reception will follow at her residence after the cemetery services at 730 N. Whitnall Hwy Burbank, CA 91505. If you would like to send flowers, you may send them to the church. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center, located in the city of Burbank. The family would also like to acknowledge her doctor, Dr. Del Castillo, and oncologists, Dr. Menna, and Dr. Alcantar for the loving care they provided to her over the years.
