Maneul De La Rosa

Manuel De La Rosa passed away on June 3, 2010. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Laura, sister Dora Macias and parents Agustin and Paula De La Rosa. He is survived by his sons, David (Lisa), Donald (Nok ), Eddie and sister Rosa De La Rosa, brother Augie (Tina). Manuel was born October 15, 1927 in Alhambra and lived most of his life in El Monte. He attended Temple Grammar School and was a 1946 graduate of El Monte Union High School. He subsequently joined the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He graduated from Pasadena City College in 1951 with a major in drafting design. He began his career working at Hughes Aircraft and Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the space industry. Government budget cuts in space exploration forced many workers from their chosen careers. Manuel struggled through the recession and eventually was able to return to his profession. He ultimately retired from Rockwell International where he worked seventeen years. History had repeated itself as budget cutbacks were once again forcing out career employees in the space program. Manual and Laura were very active in community affairs and local politics. Manual served as field representative for Assemblywoman Sally Tanner during her tenure. He also served on the City of El Monte Planning and Cable Commissions. He was active in American Legion and PTA (El Monte High School) activities. He loved the sport of professional boxing and was an avid tennis player. He treasured the memories of dancing with his wife Laura and their numerous travels to faraway places. His moral fiber, kindness, and strong belief in God will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Funeral Mass at 10 AM on Friday, June 11, will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Arcadia.
