Larry Atkins passed away at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, California on April 25, 2022 following a brief illness. He was born in Glendale, California on September 3, 1946 to Earle Richardson (Dick) and Myrtle Atkins and raised in Whittier, California, graduating from Sierra High School in 1964.

On March 28, 1966 he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he would serve as a Psychiatric Technician both on the hospital ship, USS Repose, and in the Oakland Naval Hospital. Upon his separation from the Navy in 1969, he attended California State University, Fullerton earning his Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1973. He worked as a Psychiatric Nurse for 15 years while also completing his Master's Degree in Business Administration from UC Riverside. Then from 1988 until his retirement in 2011 he was an Internal Revenue Officer in the Los Angeles area.

Larry's true calling and greatest joy was music including being a Choir member. He sang throughout his life in the churches he attended starting in high school and culminating with the Chancel Choir at the Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist in Arcadia, where he also served many years as Church Treasurer. At times he also sang in the William Hall Chorale and the Town Singers. He attended LA Philharmonic concerts for many years until he could no longer drive.

Larry leaves behind his loving family as he now has joined the Heavenly Choir; his sisters, Charlene Atkins and Janet Austin and their families; his children, daughter Sonya Chouinard (Mike) and their daughters Courtney and Kaitlyn, and son Shaun Hilton (Destini) and his daughters Abigail and Emily and her daughter Mary, as well as friends and extended family.

The celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist, located at 840 W. Duarte Road in Arcadia on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Eva Thai-Erwin, Pastor, officiating.
