On April 4, 2026, Larry Marc Daines passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his four sons and his beloved wife, Ginger. Larry was born August 23, 1938 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Robert Henry and Anna Merrill Daines.
Larry grew up in Metuchen, New Jersey alongside his brother and two sisters. He attended public schools where he enjoyed playing football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Metuchen High School in 1956 and went on to study at Utah State where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. From 1958 to 1960, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States Mission. Following his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he graduated in economics. He then attended the University of Utah College of Law, where he was a member of Law Review and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1966. Larry began his legal career at Angell, Adams & Holmes in San Francisco. In 1969, he moved to Pasadena, CA and was an associate general counsel and vice president of corporate development at Beverly Enterprises. In 1972, Larry founded his own company, Decor Concepts Inc., which specialized in designing and building interiors and playgrounds for fast-food restaurants around the world. In 1995, he sold the company to Rubbermaid. After he sold the business, he taught entrepreneurship classes at the University of La Verne and Pepperdine University.
Larry spent much of his life serving in his church and community. He loved serving as scoutmaster, seminary teacher, bishop and stake patriarch. His pride and joy, besides his family, was his six years of service as bishop. He also served on the board of directors for the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club, was a member of the Arcadia Educational Foundation, and served as president of the San Gabriel Valley Boy Scouts where he was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver award.
It was during Larry’s time in San Francisco that he was set up on a blind date with Ginger Nelson. Their first date lasted from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., and they fell in love that very night. Worried that Larry would never pop the question, Ginger proposed to him after three months of dating. They were married on a rainy day in the Los Angeles Temple on March 31, 1967. Ginger was the love of his life.
Out of all of Larry’s accomplishments, he often said being a dad and grandpa was his greatest reward. He treasured the annual family reunions to Lake Tahoe since 1968, summer trips with his family to Newport Beach, and he cherished the holidays surrounded by family in their home. His boys grew up sharing his love of sports as they attended countless games together as loyal, die-hard Dodgers, Lakers and BYU Cougars fans.
Larry is survived by his beautiful wife Ginger; their four sons Morgan (Vicki), Matthew (Dewi), Eric (Laura), Steven (Kristin); and 12 wonderful grandchildren.
