Josephine Agnes Ochoa

Jo was born in Arcadia, CA on January 28, 1924 and passed away on November 24, 2021 in Monrovia, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Chuck. She is survived by: twin daughters, Sandy (Dan) Hollifield and Cindy (Walt) Shearard; son, Chuck (Sharon) Ochoa; 6 Grandchildren; 13 Great-grandchildren; and, 1 Great-great-granddaughter.
Jo was very involved in her community of Monrovia. She was an active member of the MHS Alumni Association for over 50 years (MAD Graduating Class of 1942); the Monrovia Guild of Childrens Hospital; P.E.O. Chapter EC; member of the Monrovia Centennial Committee; a founding member of the Monrovia Historical Museum; and an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Jo was always an athlete finding ways to participate in sports whether it was offered or available to women. She participated in softball, running, volleyball, bowling, badminton and later in life tennis. She coached basketball and volleyball at Immaculate Conception School. As a youth living on the Baldwin Ranch she was an avid horsewoman . . . and as a 19 year-old she would travel with her two buddies to Baker for flying lessons with the goal of ferrying planes during WWII. Yes, she even flew planes. At the young age of 87 she completed her last 5k run and at 88 she played her last tennis match. She was known to ride skateboards and an occasional unicycle in her forties. Jo was a competitor at heart in everything she did.
