John M. Glenn passed away peacefully on April 19, 2012 at the age of 88. John was born on December 26, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the youngest son of six children born to Lewis and Loretta Glenn. John served in the Army during WWII where he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. Upon release from the Army, John started what became a very successful furniture business in Vallejo, CA. Relocating to Southern California, John began a business in real estate where he would spend countless hours dedicated to renovation and gardening projects. John took great pride in restoring several multifamily apartment buildings he owned in Monrovia Ave. in Monrovia. He especially enjoyed working with his children on these renovation projects. Retiring from real estate, he moved to Las Vegas where he created his beautiful home cactus garden. John will most be remembered by those who loved him as a family man and loyal friend. He was devastated by the loss of his wife of 39 years, Alyce, who passed away in 1983 at age 59. They had eight children: Their loving daughters Susan (husband Tim), Elizabeth (husband Carl) and Mary (husband Randy) and their beloved sons David, Dennis ( wife Terrie), Daniel, Marty ( who predeceased John) and Matt ( wife Eileen). He possessed a great love of the outdoors and passed this enthusiasm on to his children. One of John's greatest joys was spending time with his family on annual camping expeditions to Yosemite and the High Sierra, fishing at Big Rock and watching the San Francisco Forty Niners football games. He loved traveling the country in his motorhome, fishing with the zodiac boat at Vancouver Island and golfing in Hawaii. He treated his family on two wonderful trips: Houseboats on Shasta Lake in 1985 and a trip to Hawaii in 1988. John also had a special place in his heart for his 14 grandchildren: Katherine, Brian, James, Stephan, Sandy, Dan Jr., Gregory, John, Jennifer, Jason, Michelle, Travis, Kevin and Madeline and his 10 great-grandchildren: Sami, Kirsten, Alina, Ethan, Madison, Taylor, Adriane, Peyton, Alyce and Gloria. John is also survived by his sisters Marion Perrone of Millbrae, CA and Norma Lait of Pleasant Hill, CA. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of John to the American Kidney Fund. Service was held on April 26, 2012 at Douglass & Zook Chapel of Remembrance Funeral Home with burial to follow at Live Oak Memorial Park.
