John Robert "Bob" Dollins, 73, was born on March 2, 1951, in Glendale, CA, and passed away on May 30, 2024, peacefully in his home of 43 years, surrounded by his loving family.

In 1974, Bob was married to Linda Reidelbach and they had the privilege of sharing the last 50 years together.  Bob was a loving husband to Linda, son to Miriam "Midge" and John Dollins, brother to Dan, Brad and Suzy, an amazing father to his two children, Jennifer and Sean, the sweetest father-in-law to David and Amy and the best Poppa Bob to his four grandchildren, Brody, Ben, Brayden and Lily.  Bob was one amazing friend to so many.

Bob spent much of his early life in Duarte, CA and was a proud graduate of Duarte high school's class of 1969.  He enlisted in the Navy in 1971 and was assigned to the USS Barnstable County (LST-1197) as a Quartermaster and was honorably discharged in 1977 with an E-5 Rank. Over the course of his life, Bob loved sharing his Navy stories of navigating through the Suez Canal and his many Caribbean adventures with his shipmates.  While on deployment, Bob utilized his love of sketching and drawing, often creating wonderful cartoons for the USS Barnstable newsletters.  He loved drawing murals for his grade schools and sketched cartoons on every card for his grandchildren celebrating birthdays, holidays and milestones.

While in the Navy he often took his scuba gear out for a dive where he enjoyed the crystal blue Caribbean waters.  Throughout the years, Bob would continue his love of scuba diving with friends and family at Crescent Cove in Laguna Beach, which later would become a family favorite beach.

After serving in the Navy, Bob attended Citrus College where he studied to become a Computer Programmer.  He later worked for Home Savings of America and Washington Mutual for 20+ years before retiring in 2001.

When Bob was not at Mount Wilson admiring the stars and sharing his passion for astronomy, he was volunteering his time at Monrovia Canyon, Eaton Canyon and, of course, Mount Wilson.  Over the last twenty years, Bob has led hundreds of hikes with park visitors, students, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, and friends from all over southern California sharing his knowledge and experience.

Bob loved the outdoors and spent much of his life learning about the Southern California basin's local wildlife, flora, and fauna.  He even designed and planted his own drought-tolerant landscaping at home that included his favorite California Poppies.  He loved all creatures, from the wildlife in the mountains, the lizards in his yard to every kind of bird in the sky.

Bob was a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather who deeply touched the lives of many people who will never forget his impact on them. Although Poppa Bob is deeply missed, we know he rests in peace.
