John Wylie (Jack) Dougherty, 88, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2010. Born to Wilson and Rosalie Dougherty on January 11, 1922 in Hemet, California, Jack grew up in Arcadia and attended Arcadia schools, graduating from MAD High School in 1940. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from PJC, then joined the Navy, received his wings, and transferred to the Marine Air Corps, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. Jack worked for Aerojet General, then Metropolitan Water District. In 1952 he married Molly Service, and they raised their family in Temple City. A member of Arcadia Presbyterian Church for 75 years, he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Jack was an amateur musician and loved playing his clarinet, saxophone, and piano, especially with family and friends. He was blessed with a good sense of humor and remained active throughout his life. His last residence was Arcadia Gardens. Jack was preceded in death by his sister Jane Birch, brother James Dougherty, daughter Pamela Schiller, and his wife Molly Dougherty. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Rosemary and John Reuter of Arcadia; son Mark Dougherty of Virginia; daughter Kathleen Barbata of Oregon; grandchildren Megan, Justin, and Jack; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at Arcadia Presbyterian Church on Sat. Dec. 4th at 11:00 a.m.; private interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery.
