Our beloved father, John Alan Bennett passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2013 at his home in Sierra Madre.
He is survived by his son John Alan Bennett Jr., his wife Stella and their three children ' Elliot, Sonya and Michael; his son James Madison Bennett; his daughter Christina Denise Bennett and her partner Cristi Long; his daughter Georgina Bennett Carrillo and her husband Guillermo; his daughter Jessica Bennett Rideout and her husband Robert; numerous nieces; great nieces and a great nephew.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael Alva Bennett and Ruth Voth Bennett, and his identical twin brother and best friend, James Michael Bennett.
He worked 35 plus years as an engineer supervisor for Lindy Pen Co., Sierra Engineering, Anja Engineering and Scripto/Tokai. He then worked for 21 years at Caltech in the facilities department, where he often would become engrossed in conversations with many of the researchers and archivists there.
He loved books and had a wide range of interests reading about a multitude of topics and religions, and he especially enjoyed studying history ' he was a closet intellectual. He loved to take long road trips through the deserts of California, Arizona and New Mexico; and to tinker for hours in his garage reusing discarded wood and metal to create art. He was a simple and shy man with a wonderful sense of humor. He is loved and will be truly missed.
A visitation will be held on September 7th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Douglass & Zook Chapel of Remembrance, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia, CA 91016. A graveside service will follow immediately at Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery, 601 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024. www.obits5.com.
