Jerris Ann Wilson

May 2, 1931 — January 26, 2020

Jerris Ann Wilson, 88, born on May 2, 1931, in Kennett, MO, passed away January 26, 2020. She resided in Monrovia, CA at the time of her passing.

Jerris is survived by her three daughters, Vicki Wilson, Karla Wilson and Tanya Smith (Larry), along with six grandchildren - Todd Cissell (Larissa), Amanda Minkanic (Corey), Matt Cissell, Alex Smith (Marlowe), Benjamin Smith, Patrick Smith and three precious Great Granddaughters Charlotte & Harper Smith and Kira Cissell. Jerris will also be missed by extended family including her sister-in-law Jeanette Walton (Ken) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" Wilson, son Kurt Wilson, parents Mary (Ayers) and Everett "Ted" Walton, and brother Ken Walton.

Jerris lived a life of serving others - as a nurse in her profession, as a mother of four and a dedicated volunteer to many organizations from church sponsored groups to Girl & Boy Scouts and Animal Rescue Groups. In the 1960's she was one of a small group of nurses who were asked to do additional education and they then became the staff of the first Intensive Care Unit in St. Louis at Deaconess Hospital. Jerris spent the last 25 years of her nursing career as a school nurse for the Mehlville School District and continued for several years after retirement to volunteer for kindergarten registration and eye exams at the schools.

After retiring Jerris was a foster mom to many greyhounds for the Rescued Racers group in St. Louis. Her loving care helped them to be successful in their transition from the race track into their forever homes. After moving to California to live with her daughter Karla, Jerris became active assisting with cat rescue through the Cat Posse (an all-volunteer group). She bottle fed and nurtured orphaned kittens and loved, cuddled and earned the trust of many of the older cats that she helped Karla foster in their home.

While living in Monrovia, Jerris became a member of the Gad-A-Bout Senior group, attending weekly meeting and events. In addition she joined the Crafty Crafters and spent many enjoyable hours crocheting and socializing with other members.

Due to Jerris's love of the rescue kitties, in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Cat Posse (www.CatPosse.org).

Arrangements are under the direction of Douglass & Zook Funeral and Cremation Services, Monrovia, California. Details for a memorial service are pending.
