James Theodore Halkias passed away peacefully in the evening of October 2, 2012, in his home in Pasadena, California. Jim was born April 2, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in the Philadelphia area. He is survived by his two sons, Theodore and James, Jr., daughter-in-law Jill, grandchildren Katherine and Christopher, sister Mary Snyder and husband Nicholas of Houston, Texas, and numerous friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, who passed in 2007. Jim graduated from Upper Darby High School in Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the United States Army in the 1950s. Jim owned and operated a successful dry cleaning business based in the San Gabriel Valley from the 1960s until shortly before his passing. Jim married his beloved wife Mary in October 1965, and raised their family in San Marino, CA. Jim was a proud and active member throughout his life of St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena and the Greek community, where he developed many life-long friends. A sports enthusiast, Jim especially enjoyed baseball and tennis, and rooting for his beloved Philadelphia Phillies. Jim was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grand-children. His strong work ethic, kind heart and gentle spirit will be missed by all, but we are thankful he is at peace. A Trisagion will be held on Sunday, October 7 at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 8 at 10:30 am. Both services will be held at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church, 778 South Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena, CA.
