James E Durant passed away December 14, 2011 in Azusa, California. Jim was born October 29, 1925 to Edward and Hazel McDaniel formerly of Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law James & Laurie Durant of Windsor CT, his o daughter Debbie Johnson and his grand children, Russell, Rebecca, and Natalie Johnson all of Grass Valley, CA. He was predeceased by his son Bruce. Jim was a “race tracker” being involved with all aspects of racing Thoroughbred, Appaloosa and Quarter horses; and owner of winners J.J. Tom, Po’manshoss, and Pomme Frite, among others. Jim moved to Southern California from Ohio in the ‘40s. He worked at various California racetracks and retired as a Pari-mutuel Clerk. He could often be found at the “rec” hall playing Race Track Rummy with his friends. He was proud to have served his country as a US Marine, being Honorable Discharged in 1959. Semper Fi. He will be remembered by all as a man who lived his life the way he wanted. There are no services, but a moment of reflection on his life by those who knew him would be respected. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Citrus Valley Hospice.
