James Ernest Bateson

August 11, 1930 — September 2, 2011

James Ernest Bateson was born Aug. 11, 1930 and passed at peace September 2, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. James was the youngest son of Frederick and Cicely Bateson and brother of Enid Schaeffer, whom all preceded him in death, as well as his grandson, James Norris Scruggs. He will be remembered for his wisdom, humor, personal values, awesome parenting, and as a faithful friend. Jim served his community for 26 years as an Arcadia Fireman, wearing many different hats during his employment. He loved traveling and sports. He is survived by his 3 children, Brad (Sharon) Bateson, Debbie (John) Boardman and Michele (Bud) Scruggs; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Services will be held Saturday, September 10 at 2:00 PM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Monrovia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of James.
