Harlene A. Hamann

Harlene A. Hamann was born to Ella & Reinhold Hamann on August 18, 1924 in Osco Township, Illinois. She died June 20, 2009 at the Ronald Reagan (UCLA) Medical Center in Westwood, California not far from her home in Arcadia. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Edford Township, Illinois. She is survived by her niece Sue Munson (Illinois) and nephew Tim Lieving (Florida). There are also three grand nieces and nephews: Erin and Kyleigh Munson and Nicholas Lieving. She was also the adoptive grandparent to Jacob Sonnenberg and Sarah Blair. She worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company for years, starting at age 18. Throughout the years she climbed the corporate ladder until she became an executive in the company. It was her work that brought her to California. Harlene was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arcadia, California where she at one time or another participated in every facet of the church, including singing in the choir, coordinating the the greeters and coffee hours and serving on the financial board. "Whatever she did," as her good friend said, "Harlene tackled it with gusto." As President and Treasurer of her condominium development she kept everything on track, from arranging the painting of buildings to paying the insurance. She also served as a city commissioner of Arcadia, representing the seniors. She was President and Treasurer of Chapter QH of the PEO, the Philanthropic Education Organization, which award scholarships to women. And of course, she was a proud Republican and participated in the activities of the local Republican Party.
