Hail Hendersen Baber

The journey of Hail Henderson Baber began on March 14, 1936 as the 7th of 14 children born to the union of Issac and Pinkie Love Baber of Muskogee Oklahoma. Henderson was named after his grandfather and began his education in Oklahoma. The family later moved to Fresno, California where he excelled in sports and earned a scholarship in baseball to attend University of California Fresno. At the young age of 19, He met and married the love of his life, Marie Baber with that union, He fathered seven children. While his interest was baseball, his family was always more important. In 1956, He moved his family to Monrovia, California where he went to work. First working as a store clerk for Thrifty’s Drugs, Then with Hal Greene Chevrolet and later into his own business. In 1963. He opened B&O Garage in Monrovia, He later opened Seaside Gas Station in 1965 and had two Phillips 66 Gas Stations in 1969. He always had the gift of conversation and desire to succeed. In 1971 he got into retail sales and open a store in Monrovia. It is a very successful business and it is still open today. His warm smile and entrepreneur skills were among his greatest assets. Later in life he used his business intellect to invest in property, He always had a remarkable ability to look ahead and invest based on the future. This gift was truly a blessing and he was always quick to acknowledge it to others. His love for sports always had him involved with his son’s, both coaching and attending their sporting events. He always enjoyed monitoring other young people by giving his time and teaching them, He loved kids and truly interested in their well being. He always saw the best in everyone he interacted with, and was quick to help both family and friends. Despite getting hurt in 1989, He still had joy and a great outlook on life and he had no problem expressing it. He never complained or gave up and he put all his faith in the hearer of all prayers, God. “Hail” as we so lovingly called him at times was a member of Temple Missionary Baptist Church of San Bernardino, California. This is where he served and was a great inspiration to many. Hail Henderson Baber, leaves to cherish his memory four son’s Steven Baber, Derrick Baber (Yvonne), Dawin Baber and John Baber (Peggy), four daughter’s; Gwen Baber, Pam Baber, Stacy Baber and Janelle Baber, 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great great greatchildren, two sister’s Ethel Miller (Daniel) and Helen Draper (Joe). One brother Samuel Baber (Connie). Two sisters-in-law: Bobbie Trotter Clark and Jean Baber. He leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and great friends. Special mention must be made for the three close friends that made his life both joyous and fulfilling and we will appreciate them forever, Gladys Wilson, Eva Anderson and especially Cyn June Arnold, Thank you.
