Gerald Thomas Ballard was born in 1935 to a pioneer family who had lived in the San Gabriel Valley for 9 generations. Jerry, as he was always known, continued to live in San Gabriel and Alhambra for all of his 84 years. He graduated from San Gabriel Mission High in it's first graduating class. After serving his term in the U.S.Army, he pursued careers in hair styling and book sales.
He was known as a gracious gentleman and generous friend. In his retirement he devoted much time to the Carmelite Sisters' garden and to cultivating exotic species of cacti. His favorite hobby was old movies and he had assembled a vast collection of films and books which he enjoyed sharing with his many friends.
He is survived by his sister, Gloria Ballard, and his dear friend, Nancy Boghosian.
