George Hall

May 21, 1925 — February 20, 2012

On May 25, 1925, in San Bernardino, George entered this world. He was born to Adelma Vaughn and Harold Hall. He joined his older sister Haroldine and now the Hall family became a foursome. As a boy the family picked up and left San Bernardino and moved to East Los Angles. Georgie Lee, as his mother called him, attended Eastmont Jr. High, were he lettered in baseball. He then attended Montebello High School. With his parents in Rhode Island for work, he was on his own for much of his teen years, living with his sister and brother-in-law. At 17, George decided to leave high school for a life on the open seas and joined the Merchant Marines. He said he liked the Merchant Marines for the adventure because he could jump ship and get on another ship if he didn’t like the one he was on. He also liked the adventure. Spending time in Australia and New Guinea and once even hitch hiking all the way home from Seattle. After the Merchant Marines he returned home to East Los Angles working as a bartender for a time for his good buddy, Mickey Manley’s father in law. He married for a short time and had a son who passed away as a baby. George was later introduced to a girl with a smile that could light up a room, a spirited personality and she was a beauty too! In June of 1953 he married that beauty, Jeannette Malfa. George and Jean were blessed with a beautiful little girl in 1956, Gail Ann. In 1960, George bought the latest thing “a tack home” in Montebello. The home he remained in for the rest of his life. George joined the “Trade” as they call it and became a union pipefitter in 1949. He installed fire sprinklers for over 40 years. He worked for Grinnell, Advanced and in 1978 fulfilled a dream when he started his own business - Assured Fire Protection Co. He closed shop in 1990 to finally retire. In 1968 George joined the Mason’s and then the Shriner’s. He also became an avid golfer spending long hours perfecting his game both on the course and at the 19th hole. George loved his family and enjoyed his life. He loved to get dressed up and go out with friends and family. Every Saturday night was Del Rae night. He took great joy in his daughter. He loved nothing more than a good barbeque, a great martini or scotch and the company of family and friends. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Rio Hondo Golf Course Event Center, 10627 Old River School Road, Downey, CA 90241 at 4:00 PM
