Ellis Logans was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on May 19, 1929. He was the second son of Richard and Paulina Barker Logans. The family moved to San Diego, California in 1941.

Ellis attended Memorial Jr. High and San Diego High as a young man.

Ellis served two terms in the Army Air Force as a clerk typist and as a radio operatior. He married his first wife, Estella Mae Jones in 1950, and that union produced four children: Sheila, Ellis, Dwain, Darryl and Sharon.

Upon the death of his wife, Ellis moved with his children to Los Angeles, California. In 1966, he met and married Bettye Vaughan, who had two children of her own, Abbie and Denise.

Over the next 50 years, Ellis and Bettye's family grew and prospered.

Ellis and Bettye loved to sing and dance and won a few dancing contests. They went on many cruises and they loved to go to the casinos. They were also very active in the church, where Ellis served as a deacon. Ellis was also a published author with a collection of his poems being copyrighted and published.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Paulina Logans, brothers, Richard, Billy, Donald, and Eddie Logans and his sisters, Audrey Foxx and Shirley Garvin, his grandson, Darryll M. Logans and his wife, Bettye V. Logans.

Ellis was called home on Thursday, March 3, 2016. Survived by family, we are conforted that he is resting peacefully in God's Kingdom.

Ellis is survived by his daughters, Sheila A. Gipson and Sharon Griffin, sons, Ellis Dwain Logans (Pamela) and Darryl Logans (Gwen); step-daughters, Abbie Grover and Denise Vaughan; brothers, Thomas Logans of Houston, Texas, and Elmer Logans (Versalean) of Palestine, Texas; grandchildren, Debbie, Toni, Lynette, Lamar, Merceides, Meghan, Ellisabeth, Paige, Mia, and Micaela and a host of great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
