Elizabeth Watson

January 24, 1920 — August 8, 2009

Elizabeth (Betty) Watson was born on January 24, 1920 and raised in Bisbee, a small copper mining town in Arizona. She was the eldest of three daughters. Betty pursued an education at the University of Arizona, where she met and later wed John Watson, her dear husband of 49 years. She had two daughters, Jimmye and Joan, and moved to Redondo Beach, California. Betty relished the friendships she formed there and throughout her life. She moved to Alhambra and began a career at Lloyd’s Bank where she ultimately promoted to regional Vice President. She was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and took pride in her success, as women in prominent banking positions were scarce at the time. In Arcadia, Betty continued to take leadership positions in numerous civic, professional, cultural and charitable organizations. These included Girl Scouts, Soroptomists, PTA, Ikebana International, the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), Arcadia Republican Women’s Club, and the Arboretum volunteer program. An avid world traveler, Betty enjoyed photography, art, Japanese floral design and genealogy. She was computer savvy and organized training while residing at Royal Oaks Manor in Bradbury. A member of the Presbyterian Church, Betty participated in bible study and attended chapel services. Her wry humor, kindness, helpfulness and love for her family will be greatly missed. Survivors include her sister, Margaret Tuell of Flagstaff, Arizona; daughter, Joan Bloomfield of Arcadia, California; grandchildren, Stephen Mollin of Montara, California and Laura Valentine of Woodland Hills, California; and great granddaughters, Allison Mollin and Emma Valentine. Her sister, Kathryn Hughes; daughter, Jimmye Mollin; and husband, John Watson, preceded her in death.
