Elizabeth Louise Jelinek

Elizabeth Louise Jelinek nee Zeman, 92, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 in Arcadia, CA, as a result of complications from pneumonia following hip replacement surgery. Elizabeth was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 10, 1916, the youngest child of John and Anna Zeman. She is preceded in death by two brothers, George and Louis, and two sisters, Marie and Helen. Her beloved husband of 65 years, James, passed away in 2005. James and Elizabeth were married in 1940 and resided in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Missouri before moving to Tempe, Arizona in 1953, where James joined the faculty at Arizona State University (then college) as a professor of education. Elizabeth also began working at the university as the executive secretary for the Head Librarian at Matthews Library. She worked at the library for 25 years, retiring in 1978. After her husband's death, Elizabeth moved to Arcadia, California in 2007, residing at Arcadia Garden's Retirement Hotel. She is survived by her son, Lawrence; her daughter-in-law, Sandra; and her granddaughter, Lauren. Elizabeth will be remembered by her family and friends for her sense of humor and her resilient spirit. At her request, no service will be held.
