Elizabeth "Betty" Loraine Giles, the only child of the late Myrtle Elizabeth and Langley James Goodman, passed at the age of 99 on October 1, 2025. Born on June 28, 1926 in Pasadena, California, Betty grew up in Altadena, California. She attended Luther Burbank Elementary School, Eliot Junior High School, and Pasadena Junior College/High School. Betty then attended USC where she met her future husband, Charles, and was active in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Betty lived in Arcadia, California for 60 years during that time she raised three daughters. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, travel, and volunteer work. Some of her volunteer involvement included the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration choir and alter guild, Holly Avenue Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, Girl School leader, Las Alas Auxiliary of the Arcadia Assistance League, Pasadena Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Chapter, and San Gabriel Valley Alumnae Panhellenic Association.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Oran Giles, and daughter, Alison Ann Arcadi. She is survived by her daughters, Justine Giles of Culver City, Leslie Anderson of Oceanside, and son-in-law Michael Arcadi of Whittier. In addition, she leaves behind her grandchildren James Arcadi (Allison), Breanna LaDoucer (William), Joseph Arcadi (Tiffany), Christopher Anderson (Jacqueline), and Alyssa Boyd (Nathaniel) as well as eight great grandchildren, Dominic Arcadi, Clare Arcadi, Simeon Arcadi, Norah LaDoucer, Lilly Boyd, Corban Boyd, Aspen Arcadi, and Brynn Anderson.
A family service at Live Oak Cemetery in Monrovia, California will be held on November 24, 2025 with an open reception from 2:30-4:30 at Westminster Gardens Retirement Community Packard Hall, 1420 Santo Domingo Avenue, Duarte, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty's honor to the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (Arcadia), Westminster Gardens Benevolence Fund (Duarte), or the American Red Cross.
