Earl Johnston

Earl Valentine Johnston, 85, died peacefully, Thursday, 8/15/24 in his home in Duarte, CA. His funeral service will be held on Friday, 9/6/24 at Douglas & Zook Mortuary in Monrovia, CA, at 1:00 P.M. The reception to follow is at The V.F.W., Monrovia, CA, at 3:30 P.M.

Earl was born on June 13, 1939, in Cobden, Ontario, Canada, to Samuel and Ida Johnston. Earl was number 6 of 7 children. Earl would continue to reside in both Ontario and California throughout his life. He was a horseman, training harness racehorses in Canada. The family farm Johnston California Stables was his pride and joy. Earl worked in the family business for over 50 years, Western Fence Co., in Pasadena, CA.

Earl had two daughters, Suzanne and Nicole from his first marriage. Later he would marry Lyla Grimmer-Johnston, that union lasted for 20 years as she preceded him in death. From this union Earl became Papa to 6 children, 9 grandchildren (and 3 grand-dogs), and 5 great-grandchildren. Earl is survived by his wife Flora Christine Johnston. We are all so grateful he found love at 79! A devoted wife and friend to our family. Earl is also survived by sister, Marilyn, niece, Linda, great-nephew, J.C., and great-niece, Heather.

Earl was genuinely the kindest man in the world. Everyone loved him. He will be missed dearly.
