Dorothy Alice Holmes

Dorothy A. Holmes was born on October 30, 1922, to Raymond Patterson and Lena Adler, and passed away peacefully on April 30, 2015, in Arcadia surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Pasadena where she attended Washington Elementary, Washington Junior High, and P.C.C. West Campus where she graduated in 1940. She married David B. Holmes in 1940 and they were married sixty-eight years on October 13, 2008. When her children were older she worked at F.C. Nash and Hertels Department Stores for several years. She enjoyed camping, traveling, knitting, and sewing. She especially loved spending time with her family and attending the sports activities of her thirteen great-grandchildren. She attended the same church for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband David in 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Boerjan; son, David Holmes; daughter-in-law Jan; brother, Raymond Patterson Jr.; sister, Elizabeth Wagner; as well as seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 8, at Douglass and Zook Mortuary, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia, 91016, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral service will held on Saturday, May 9, at 11:00am, at Grace Baptist Church, 5537 Temple City Blvd., Temple City, 91780. Interment following at Mountain View Mausoleum, 2300 N. Marengo Ave., Altadena, 91001.
