Donald C. Buhrmann, age 91, died July 16, 2012 at his home in Pasadena, CA in the arms of his wife and daughters. Born in Aurora, he attended East High School and the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. Don was a Marine in WWII. He fought in the battle for Guadalcanal and did mapping of the South Pacific for the Intelligence Division. Some of his paintings were held in the national archives. Later, he was an illustrator in the studios of Haddon Sundblom, he received awards from the Art Directors Club of Chicago and others for his work. He was noted for his water colors, oils and exquisite bird carvings. He was given a distinguished alumni award by East High in 2008. Don is survived by his wife, June Dreyer Buhrmann; daughters, Cathalin Buhrmann Folks of Maryville, TN and Erica Buhrmann and her husband, Ronald P. Drucker of Berkeley, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Ruthanne Dreyer Soper and Hunter A. Soper of Corona Del Mar, CA; grandchildren, Matthew Folks, Andrew and Karin Drucker; great grandson, Paul Folks and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. His brothers, Lowell and Norman Buhrmann preceded him in death, as did his sister, Barbara. Memorial services will be private.
