It is with heavy hearts and fervent sadness that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable individual, Dominic Peter Menton, who departed from this world too soon on July 19th. He was a loving husband to Penny and a caring father to Brett and Sean. A brother to Robert, Maria, Maureen, and Joe, an uncle, a mentor, a devoted friend, and a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on June 9th, 1956 in Dublin, Ireland, Dominic became a beacon of light to everyone he encountered. His radiant smile, warm heart, and compassionate nature touched the lives of countless people. He had an innate ability to bring comfort to those in need, always willing to lend an attentive ear and offer a helping hand.
As a devoted family man, Dominic cherished his role as a husband and father. He was the pillar of strength for his family, providing unwavering support, guidance, and love. His devotion to his loved ones knew no bounds, and he took great pride in positively influencing his children's lives, instilling in them the values of humility, empathy, and perseverance.
Beyond his family, Dominic was a founding member of the Porcupine Open, which began in 1988. He and his closest friends travelled to Northern Michigan to play golf each year, celebrating their lifelong amity through sports and practical jokes. No matter what challenges Dominic and his friends faced, they always showed up to the Porky, ready to hit pause on reality and dwell in the paradise of their comradery.
Those fortunate to know Dominic know that his generosity knew no limits. He believed in the power of small acts of kindness and made it a part of his daily life. Whether it was a warm smile to brighten someone's day or a thoughtful gesture to uplift a friend, he had an uncanny ability to make people feel valued and loved. And who could forget his infectious laugh?
His passions were as diverse as his warmheartedness. Dominic had an insatiable curiosity and love for learning. He was fascinated with the ocean, aeroplanes, nature, and space. His favourite movie was The Martian, followed closely by the original Star Wars trilogy. Most nights, you could find Dominic watching The Deadliest Catch or falling asleep to the Golf Channel.
As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary man, we also celebrate the profound impact he made during his time with us. His legacy of love, compassion, and dignity will continue to inspire and guide us in our own lives.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Dominic for the love he shared, the joy he brought, and the kindness he spread. May his memory be a blessing to us all, and may we honour him by perpetuating the values he holds dear. The solace and strength we seek can be found through the cherished memories of Dominic we have as individuals and in solidarity.
Visitation commences on Tuesday, July 25th at 6 PM at Douglass & Zook Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at St Bede the Venerable Church on July 26th at 10 am. Immediately following the funeral service, there will be a celebration of life for Dominic at the San Antonio Winery in Los Angeles, CA. We ask all to come and share their memories of Dominic with his family and friends.
Rest in eternal peace, Dominic. Your love will forever remain in our hearts. You are going home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the City of Hope.
