Curtis James Evans departed this life on July 4, 2021 at his home in Long Beach, California. Curtis was born on February 26th, 1948 to Callie Mae Jackson and Curtis James Evans, Sr., in Beggs, Oklahoma. Curtis was one of three children from this union to include his older sister Carolyn Elizabeth Evans (Douglas) and younger brother, Raymond Douglas Evans. Curtis grew up with his grandmother, Anna Odella (Jackson) Jordan in Oklahoma during his younger years. Curtis moved with his grandmother to Duarte, California where they lived until he graduated high school.
Curtis' mother, Callie Mae Jackson (Evans), remarried to Leonard Lester Counce Sr., and they moved to California. From this union, Curtis gained (5) sisters and (5) brothers, to include Andre Donald Counce, Leonard Lester Counce Jr., Charles Anthony Counce, Michael Edwin Counce, Vance LaMont Counce, Ervina Renee Counce (Bell), Karen LaVerne Counce (Smith), Jada Ramona Counce (Brown), Darleen Yvette Counce (Williams), and LeAndra Counce (Shepherd).
Curtis attended and graduated from Duarte High School, where he played in the band. Curtis later enrolled into Citrus Junior College, where he met and married the love of his life, Emily Aluvale Palakiko. From this union, they had two children, Emily Leolaha Evans and Curtis James Evans III.
After attending Citrus Junior College, Curtis was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Viet Nam War, achieving the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. Curtis was honorably discharged with full military honor and returned home to his wife and children.
Upon returning from his military service, Curtis secured a position with the Mobil Oil Company, working as a Computer Programmer Specialist. He worked there for many years and retired with full benefits. Curtis was a very loving and generous man. Family was important to him and he adored his family, expressing those feelings to everyone he could. Curtis had a great sense of humor and if you met him, then he left an impression on you.
Curtis is preceded in death by his older sister, Carolyn Elizabeth Evans (Douglas), his younger brother, Charles Anthony Evans, his lovely wife, Emily Aluvale Palakiko, his daughter Emily Leolaha Evans and his son Curtis James Evans III. Curtis leaves to morn ten brothers and sisters; his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, brother & sisters-in-law and friends.
Curtis will be sorely missed. We know he is resting in the loving arms of our Lord and reunited with his loving family. Rest well Mr. Curtis James Evans Sr. We love you and we'll miss you until we meet again.
