Chester Martinez, a pillar of kindness and laughter, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2025, in West Covina, California. Born on December 8, 1945, in Victoria, Tarlac, Philippines, Chester left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is cherished by his loving wife, Linda, and his proud daughters—Karen, February, and Blossom—along with his beloved son, Chester Jan. His memory will also be held dear by his late son, Benedict.
Chester was a remarkable individual, celebrated for his extensive knowledge and captivating stories. An astute historian with a great sense of humor, he loved sharing tales of yesteryear, drawing friends and family in with his warm spirit. He possessed a selfless nature that was evident in his every interaction, and he displayed impressive leadership skills throughout his life.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the esteemed University of the East, using his education to inspire those around him. Chester proudly served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Reserve of the Philippines, and his bravery was showcased during a remarkable incident where he calmly negotiated with a potential terrorist posing a threat on a flight to the Philippines.
Family was at the heart of Chester’s life; he treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and joy. His playful side shone brightly in simple pleasures—collecting toy train displays and performing magic tricks at children’s parties, always bringing smiles to the faces of young and old alike.
He lived a life that radiated warmth and compassion. Chester's thoughtful demeanor and his ability to laugh through life's ups and downs will be missed deeply. His legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of those he touched, a testament to the extraordinary man he was.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Chester’s life and legacy during funeral services at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills - Church of our Heritage, located at 21300 Via Verde Street, Covina, CA 91724. Visitation will commence on January 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM, with a second service following on February 1, 2025, at 2:30 PM.
While Chester may have departed from this world, his spirit lives on in the memories woven into the fabric of those he loved.
