Carole Scoon

December 30, 1931 — September 11, 2025

Carole Lorraine Scoon passed away on September 11, 2025 in Monrovia, California. She was born on December 30, 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Frances and Archibald McMillan. Carole was the third of six children. She grew up in Winnipeg, and graduated from Kelvin High School. She was interested in health and science from a young age and began nurses training in the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital when she turned 18. Carole graduated with her RN in 1953.

She decided to continue her education in Ontario, Canada, receiving the Victorian Order of Nursing (VON) certificate from University of Western Ontario. While in Ontario, she met Robert (Bob) Scoon, who was attending seminary at Huron College. They married in 1956 and subsequently lived in Ontario, New Jersey and California. Bon and Carole welcomed three children: Kathryn, Craig, and Mark. The family spent summers in Ontario at their cottage on Lake Huron, visiting family scattered across the US and Canada. Bob and Carole were married for fifty years, until Bob was called home to be with the Lord in August 2006.

Carole found great joy and meaning in her nursing career. When the children grew older, she returned to work as a charge nurse at Westminster Gardens Senior Living Community in Duarte. She remained there for 38 years, until retirement at age 83. As she often said, “nursing is the greatest job in the world.” She was a passionate advocate for patients and their needs. She loved to support new nurses and other healthcare professionals, and taught by example how best to provide compassionate care.

Carole was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and “Grammie”. She was an avid letter-writer, never forgot a birthday, and was always a phone call away. She was active in her local PEO chapter, and enjoyed watching Dodger games with her family. She was predeceased by her parents Archibald and Frances; siblings Shirley, Donald and John; and her husband Bob. She is survived by her sisters Diane and Linda. She leaves behind three children, Kathryn (Albert), Craig (Becky), and Mark(Julie). She will be missed by her grandchildren (David, Stephen, Rachel, Sarah, Michael, Laura, Caleb, Alison and Lauryn) and four great-grandchildren.

Carole will be remembered for her love for her family, her strong faith, and her heart for those in need. Special thanks to the assisted living staff at Brookdale Monrovia over the past year. In recognition of causes dear to Carole’s heart, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org), or the Victorian Order of Nurses (www.von.ca).
