Carla Marks-Sunda

September 26, 1946 — February 15, 2012

Carla Marks-Sunda September 26, 1946 ~ February 15, 2012 “I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all and I stood tall; And did it my way.” Carla, “Moozie,” was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandma and best friend. She is survived by Eugene and Shirley Marks, Parents; Steve Sunda, Husband; Robyn (Fred) Farley, Sister; Caitlin (Rick) Estes and Amanda Sunda, Children; and Dylan, Ryan and Wyatt Estes, Grandchildren. Carla Marks was born in Bronx, NY in 1946. At the age of one, her family moved to Boyle Heights, CA where she started grammar school. Later the Marks family settled in Monterey Park where Carla attended El Repetto Elementary School and graduated from Mark Keppel High school in 1964. Carla attended Bryman College and became a nursing assistant, but shortly after graduating she realized that was not her calling and started working at Teachers Insurance Company. She moved to Manhattan Beach with her friend Bonnie. Carla loved being close to the water and enjoyed lounging on the beach and living life to its fullest. Another move took her to Alhambra, CA where Carla graduated from cosmetology school. She decided to open up a small nail shop called “Not Another Nail Shop”. In 1995 Carla placed a personal ad in the Penny Saver and Steve answered it, and their journey began. They spent a few months talking on the phone before meeting at Mimi’s Café for the first time. Steve knew right away that he was in love and wanted to marry Carla. Carla and her cat, Blue, moved in with Steve in La Verne, CA in 1996. They married in a wonderful small ceremony in their backyard in La Verne, CA on July 12, 1997. Carla spent her time enjoying life and doing whatever she wanted to do! Whether that be shopping, having drinks with friends, going for rides on the Harley or just relaxing at home. Carla was known for having an amazing smile, a courageous heart, an opinionated mind, youthful soul, and the spirit of a fighter! She will be greatly missed by everyone who has even had the chance to be blessed by her presence! Services will be on February 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Douglass & Zook, Chapel of Remembrance, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia, CA 91016. Contributions in her name can be made to the Susan G.
